“Attractions of Formosa Arts: 2024 Travelling Exhibition of the Collection from the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall” Launches at Chiayi’s Mei-Ling Fine Arts Museum

 “Attractions of Formosa Arts: 2024 Travelling Exhibition of the Collection from the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall,” co-organized by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of the Ministry of Culture and Cultural and Tourism Bureau of Chiayi County, will be held at Chiayi’s Mei-Ling Fine Arts Museum from August 21 to September 15. The opening ceremony was held at 10:30AM today (August 24). The distinguished guests included Vice Director-general Tsung Chin-ping of Cultural and Tourism Bureau of Chiayi County, Director Wang Bo-ching of Chiayi Performing Arts Center, Mayor Wu Ping-ruei of Puzi City of Chiayi County, Chief Yang De-sheng of the Exhibition Planning Division of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Director Chen Hung-mien of Taiwan Seal Society, Executive Director Chen Wen-lung of Taiwan International Watercolor Society, famous sculptor Wang Hsiu-chi, and Chairman Wu Hsiang-yin of Chiayi Hongmaopi Women’s Painting Association.

 

“2024 Travelling Exhibition of the Collection from the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall,” centered around the theme of “Attractions of Formosa Arts,” features the collections that showcase Taiwan’s scenic attractions and social customs, from National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Guguan in Taichung, Alishan in Chiayi, dusk of Kaohsiung Harbor, Orchid Island in Taitung to Qinbi Village in Mazu. The art journey around Formosa allows the viewers to enjoy the beauty of Taiwan through the eyes of the artists. The exhibition selects 35 pieces from the collection of the hall. Among them, 9 pieces created by the outstanding artists from Chiayi deepen the connection with Chiayi. Today’s opening ceremony specially invites Melody Flute Ensemble to play “High Green Mountain,” Joy Women’s Chorus to sing “Wind of Four Seasons” and “Grandma’s Penghu Bay,” and the members of Chiayi Hongmaopi Women’s Painting Association to have an auditory and visual feast of art exchange.

 

     Vice Director-general Tsung Chin-ping of Cultural and Tourism Bureau of Chiayi County said art makes people confident and has the soothing power. She would like to thank “Attractions of Formosa Arts: 2024 Travelling Exhibition of the Collection from the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall” for coming to Chiayi with the highlights of local themes such as Alishan, Jiemei (Sister) Lakes, and Puzi Granary. The exhibition artists from Chiayi include Wu Mei-ling, Wu Han-tsung, Lee Cheng-ming, Chen Hung-mien, Huang Yung-chuan, Huang Ching-yuan, Tsai Mao-sung, Hsiao Chin-fa, and Hsiao Chin-hsing. The public will learn more about the local artists through this exhibition.

 

     Chief Yang De-sheng of the Exhibition Planning Division of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall said Taiwan is surrounded by the ocean. The mountainous island enjoys rich and diverse natural landscapes and local customs, all of which are great inspirations for art creation. Through sketching, many painters delicately capture the high mountains, coasts, valleys, and buildings of Taiwan with their brushes, presenting the unique beauty of Taiwan and preserving historical memories.

 

     For the 2024 Travelling Exhibition at Mei-Ling Fine Arts Museum, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall specially selects the works of Wu Mei-ling (1897-2003) that were created after he was one-hundred years old. “Four Works of Landscapes,” which depicts the four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter, is painted with concise brushstrokes and strong colors. The painting evokes an overall impressive feeling of returning to innocence. The exhibition at his hometown Puzi is of special significance, allowing the viewers to pay tribute to the master.

 

     Through “Attractions of Formosa Arts: 2024 Travelling Exhibition of the Collection from the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall,” National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall expects to enhance art and cultural exchange among cities and museums, exploit the benefits of resource integration, and promote art and cultural participation and development. During the closure and renovation, the hall will work with the cultural and art venues to create the platform for art and cultural cooperation and exchange and continue to provide the public with the opportunity of artwork appreciation.
