Director-general Wang Lan-sheng of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall under the Ministry of Culture led a delegation to attend “The 100th Anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s Speech on Great Asiaism,” organized by the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan today (Nov. 30). They were warmly received by Director Uozumi Kazuaki. Besides the cultural exchanges of calligraphy, they were also guided to the valuable calligraphy works of Sun Yat-sen and participated in the guided tour to the historic sites related to Sun Yat-sen in Kobe. This is the first time for the staff to have an official visit to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe. Besides enhancing international exchanges and cooperations between museums, it is also expected to promote cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.
Director-general Wang Lan-sheng pointed out at the Calligraphy Cultural Exchange Event that the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe has been an important partner in the overseas inter-museum exchange. The two museums have participated in each other’s academic conferences, publications on the study of Sunology, and celebrations on Sun Yat-sen’s birthday or museum anniversaries. Mr. Sun Yat-sen had a close relationship with Japan. In particular, both his first and last visits to Japan took place in Kobe. During his thirty-year revolutionary career, he visited Kobe 18 times. His profound historical ties with Kobe serve as an important bridge for cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. Director Uozumi Kazuaki stated that the major business of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe is to deepen Kobe citizens’ understanding about Sun Yat-sen. Every November, “the month of Sun Yat-sen,” memorial events such as calligraphy exhibitions, concerts, speeches, and seminars are held to promote the study of Sun Yat-sen, not only communicating with various fields in Japan but also cooperating with the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Halls all over the world. He also looked forward to more inter-museum cooperations and exchanges with Taiwan’s Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
This year (2024) is the 100th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s speech on Great Asiaism in Kobe, Japan on November 28, 1924. As the only public venue in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe specially organized “The 100th Anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s Speech on Great Asiaism” and the international academic conference and held “Sun Yat-sen Calligraphy Exhibition” and “Roam Kobe with Sun Yat-sen,” the guided tour to historic sites with significant historical and cultural meaning. Besides the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (also called Ijokaku), the delegation members also visited the venue where Sun Yat-sen gave his speech on Great Asiaism. The former Kobe Girls’ High School is the present site of Hyogo County Government. They also visited Kobe Chinese School and learned about historic sites related to the overseas Chinese community in Kobe, reliving the profound historical connection between Sun Yat-sen and Kobe.
“The 100th Anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s Speech on Great Asiaism” is a large celebration carefully organized by the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Kobe in memory of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. Based on the long-term friendship with Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, they specially invited the delegation to attend the opening ceremony as the distinguished guests from Taiwan and the only overseas institution to receive official invitation.
