The 2024 Chungshan Youth Art Awards Traveling Exhibition at Hushan Art Gallery

       The 2024 Chungshan Youth Art Awards Traveling Exhibition, co-organized by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall under the Ministry of Culture and the Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau at the Hushan Art Gallery, will display a total of 54 works across three categories: ink painting, calligraphy, and oil painting. The opening ceremony was held this afternoon (March 7). The distinguished guests included Deputy Director Li Yu-lan of the Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau, Prof. Lo Cheng-hsien and Prof. Tsai You of the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts at National Taiwan University of Art, Chairman Hong Chun-chen of the Nantou County Art Association, Honorary President Wu Chi-lin of the Changhua County Calligraphy Association, famous oil painter Chen Kuang-ming and his wife Dai Hsiu-e, and Chief Kung Hsi-chia of the Exhibition Planning Division, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall。


     At the opening ceremony, Chief Kung Hsi-chia of the Exhibition Planning Division, on behalf of Director-general Wang Lan-sheng, said, “The Chungshan Youth Art Awards has been held for nine years and extended National Youth Students Painting and Calligraphy Competition, which was held for 38 times. The Chungshan Youth Art Award, which started from 2016, encourages the creative development of young artists aged from 20 to 45. We look forward to the continued support from the society for the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in organizing the competition and encourage art lovers from different regions to participate in the Chungshan Youth Art Awards. We also look forward to future collaboration with the Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau to pass on the cultural legacy and make it shine brightly”。


     Deputy Director Li Yu-lan of the Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau said, “The 2024 Chungshan Youth Art Awards Traveling Exhibition presents the splendid works. The Nantou County Government encourages art creation and promotes cultural atmosphere. The Nantou County Yushan Art Award has been held for over 25 years. We hope to have the opportunity for collaboration and exchange with the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall after its reopening”。


    Prof. Lo Cheng-hsien, the jury convener of the ink painting category and professor of the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts at National Taiwan University of Art said, “The Chungshan Youth Art Awards organized by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall broadens the horizons of young people and has become an important art platform. Through a rigorous evaluation process and diverse support measures, it provides young artists with opportunities to showcase their works and enter the market.”。


    Su Zi-jing, the winner of the Chungshan Award for Calligraphy in the 2024 Chungshan Youth Art Awards, expressed his gratitude to the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for providing a platform where art creators have the opportunity to showcase their works and exert creativity. He referenced the concept from the movie The Grandmaster to convey the process of pursuing art. He also expressed hope that more people will participate in the Chungshan Youth Art Award to enhance the development of individual artists and the overall artistic environment。


     The Chungshan Youth Art Awards call for works across three categories: ink painting, calligraphy, and oil painting. After the preliminary and secondary reviews, 40 winners are selected, including 13 works of ink painting, 14 works of calligraphy, and 13 works of oil painting. Each category gives the Chungshan Award (first place), second place, third place, honorable mention awards, and judges’ awards. This year, the three Chungshan Award winners are Liu Xin-yi of the ink painting category, Su Zi-jing of the calligraphy category, and Li Zi-wei of the oil painting category. Each winner will receive NT$300,000 and one trophy. The second place and third place will respectively receive NT$100,000 and NT$50,000. Each category has 5 honorable mention award winners, and each of them receives NT$10,000. Each of the 16 judges’ award winners will receive NT$5,000. Culture needs new life and new blood. The National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will continue to hold the Chungshan Youth Art Awards。


     The 2024 Chungshan Youth Art Awards Traveling Exhibition will be grandly held at the exhibition rooms on the first and second floors of Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau’s Hushan Art Gallery from March 7 to April 9, 2025, showcasing 54 selected winning works.
