News Release – National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall May 2, 2026 “Spiritual Environmental Protection Day” at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Co-organized by the Dharma Drum Mountain Cultural and Educational Foundation and the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall under the Ministry of Culture, the 2026 Dharma Drum Mountain Spiritual Environmental Protection Day was held on the afternoon of May 2 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Zhongshan Cultural Park Plaza of the Memorial Hall.

Centered on the core values of sustainability, mindful joy, and friendliness, the event featured more than 40 interactive mindfulness-based games, hands-on workshops, and nearly 50 varieties of eco-friendly vegetarian cuisine. Special attractions included “Senior Coffee” and the “Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Delight,” inviting the public to experience a festive gathering that blends vegetarian food, art, and spiritual environmental awareness.

Director Wang Lan-Sheng stated that the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is one of Taiwan’s most significant cultural landmarks, offering a wide array of exhibitions and performances throughout the year. Zhongshan Park, an integral part of the site, serves as a rare green space in the city, providing the public with a shared environment of harmony and beauty—values that resonate closely with Dharma Drum Mountain’s advocacy of spiritual environmental protection.

In support of the event, the Memorial Hall also set up a booth themed “Golden Roof Tiles, Red Walls, and Green Forest,” introducing the architectural elegance and landscape aesthetics of the Memorial Hall to visitors.

The event encompassed four key themes—care, gratitude, inner stability, and compassionate wisdom—and thoughtfully incorporated contemporary issues, Mother’s Day elements, meditation practices, and Buddha bathing rituals. Distinguished guests joined Venerable Guo-Hui, Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain, in offering prayers and blessings for the world.

A variety of interactive booths and redemption activities were also carefully planned to engage the public. The event was structured around five main activity zones: “Sustainability Made Fun,” “A Journey of Gratitude,” “Parent-Child Handicrafts,” “Mindful Living,” and “Eco-Friendly Vegetarian Cuisine.”

In addition, performances by the Dharma Drum Mountain Choir, Dharma Youth Drum Corps, Xin Chao Yue Music Ensemble, and the University for Developing the Elderly created a rich musical tapestry—from powerful drumbeats to ethereal melodies—immersing visitors in a celebratory atmosphere of blessings and joy.

To fully embody the event’s core values of sustainability, mindful joy, and friendliness, and to convey the spirit of abundance and harmony, the booth designs were both creative and meaningful.

Under the theme “Sustainability Made Fun,” booths such as “From a Pure Mind to Net Zero,” “Disaster Preparedness Made Easy,” and “i-Repair: Circular Living” addressed current issues through interactive learning, enhancing everyday life skills.

The “Journey of Gratitude” zone, featuring Buddha bathing, sutra copying, and bell blessings, included booths such as “Gratitude Buddha Bath,” “Blessings through Sutra Copying,” and “Happiness through Resonant Bells,” guiding participants toward inner calm while expressing gratitude to the Buddha, parents, and the Earth.

In the “Parent-Child Handicrafts” area, recycled materials were used in creative projects such as “A Second Life for Recycled Materials,” “Hand-Stitched Wishes,” and “Blessings in Beads,” showcasing lifelong learning and resilient vitality.

The “Mindful Living” zone offered playful challenges including “Zen-Themed Board Games,” “One-Day Choir,” and “Outdoor Drum Interaction,” encouraging focus and awareness through games.

In addition to traditional desserts and refined eco-friendly vegetarian foods such as shaved ice, scones, and red bean daifuku, a special treat titled “Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Delight,” designed by Ms. Wang Hui-Shu of the Dharma Drum Mountain University, combined diced apples, cinnamon, and butter lettuce to share happiness and convey blessings with the public.
