Seminar and Guided Tour In Memory of the 110th Death Anniversary of Lo Fu-Hsing

In memory of the 110th death anniversary of Lo Fu-hsing, the anti-Japanese revolutionary over the Miaoli Incident, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of Ministry of Culture organized the seminar on “Sun Yat-sen’s Nationalist Thought and the Preservation and Utilization of the Historic Sites in Miaoli,” and “The Guided Tour to the Historic Sites of Taiwanese Resistance to the Japanese Invasion of 1895 and Lo Fu-hsing Miaoli Incident,” by collaborating with Sun Yat-Sen Academic and Cultural Foundation and Hakka Research Center of College of Hakka Studies, National United University.

Deputy Director-general Yang Tong-hui of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall said this year is the 110th death anniversary of the revolutionary Lo Fu-hsing. It is of significant meaning to organize a seminar and a guided tour in his hometown Miaoli. Besides inviting Lo Fu-hsing’s granddaughter, Prof. Lo Chiu-chow, to give a keynote speech, the issues such as Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s nationalist thought, studies on the battle history, and the preservation and utilization of the historic sites in the Miaoli area are discussed. The seminar connects not only to the ancient and modern times but also to the local area. The guided tour to the historic sites passes on history and integrates academic theories with local practice through field trips and explorations. It is noteworthy that among the “Chungshan Stone Tablets,” an important attraction in Chungshan Cultural Park, there is also the emotional poem written by Lo Fu-hsing, “Who can repair the broken mountains and rivers? Our brothers have been separated all over the world,” which is particularly respectable and admirable.

The guided tour to the historic sites of Taiwanese Resistance to the Japanese Invasion of 1895 and Lo Fu-hsing Miaoli Incident today (June 1) leads the participants to visit the historic sites and invites Director Lai Shih-jo of 1895 Culture and Life Center, Adjunct Professor Huang Ding-song of the Department of Cultural Tourism, National United University, docent of Lion’s Head Mountain, Liao Chi-chen, and other literary and historical workers to serve as the guides. Through field trips and professional guide, the participants will experience the history of the land in 1895 and the cultural heritage of Miaoli.

The route of the guided tour closely related to “Taiwanese Resistance to the Japanese Invasion of 1895” and “Luo Fo-hsing Miaoli Incident” includes the historic sites such as Tongluo Tianhou Temple, Wu Family Ancestral Shrine, and Chun Xu Tang (Li Family Ancestral Shrine). It is to witness the social prosperity and cultural integration at that time. Tongluo Tianhou Temple, where Wu Tang-xing pledged resolution before going to war, is visited by many worshippers and travelers. Wu Family Ancestral Shrine shows the family’s glory and heritage. Chun Xu Tang, where Qiu Feng-jia was born, symbolizes the heroic sentiments of Miaoli and attracts many students to visit. Besides, Xu Xiang Memorial Park and Maolishan Park combine nature and culture and provide the quiet places to take a rest. Through the field trips, the participants not only visit the traces of history but also maintain and inherit these precious cultural treasures.
