2021 Taipei International Calligraphy Exhibition and Live Demonstration for Spring Festival Grandly Held

   “2021 Taipei International Calligraphy Exhibition and Live Demonstration for Spring Festival” co-organized by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Ministry of Culture, and The Calligraphy Education Association, R.O.C. will be grandly held at Wen-hua Gallery and Culture Corridors 2F of the hall from February 6 to 24, 2021. The activity of Spring Festival Couplet Writing was held at 2:30PM this afternoon (February 21). The invited first-writing guests included Political Deputy Minister of Culture, Hsiao Tsung-huang, Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng, Chairman of Chinese Culture for Sustainable Development, Liu Chao-shiuan, and Chairman of Chinese Calligraphy Art Foundation, Lian Sheng-yan to write the spring couplet together “Xin Jin Sheng Shi Kai Xin Yun, Chou Tu Chun Rong Ying Hao Nian (Greet new luck and prosperity in the good year of 2021)," praying for the prosperity of the country and the peace of the people.

   In his speech, Political Deputy Minister of Culture, Hsiao Tsung-huang, wished the guests on the scene a Happy Chinese New Year on behalf of Minister of Culture first and said Taiwan is one of the few happy countries which can hold cultural and art activities normally in the harsh moment of the global epidemic. This is the result of all citizens and the government working together in epidemic prevention. He praised The Calligraphy Education Association, R.O.C. for holding the international calligraphy exhibition during Spring Festival every year, which carries the meanings of heritage and innovation. He also said that the literati's first-writing ceremony shares the similar meaning with all industries' work resumption after the Spring Festival holiday. It is also hoped that the activity will bring blessings to everyone in the Year of the Ox.
Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng, said the hall had expected to hold the spring couplet writing activity before Spring Festival, which was cancelled due to the resurgence of COVID-19. It is an honor to work together with The Calligraphy Education Association, R.O.C. again to hold the spring couplet writing activity.    In his speech, Chairman of The Calligraphy Education Association, R.O.C., Yang Shu-tang, said the exhibition includes an array of works of the calligraphers from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, US, Canada, and France. Besides inviting the distinguished guests and calligraphers, the spring couplet activity also has the representatives from the junior high and elementary schools of Taipei City. The participation of both seniors and young students symbolizes the heritage of calligraphy culture. To achieve the goal of "learning in the fun way," the exhibition specially arranges the game of "character puzzle" for the visitors to learn the different scripts, "seal script, clerical script, cursive script, running script, and regular script" and the beauty of calligraphy through the games.

   With the concept of cultural exchange, art heritage, friend-making through cultural exchange, and calligraphy creation, the exhibition includes 149 works.
