The workshop of “Let’s Speak Taiwanese” organized by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of Ministry of Culture starts today (August 13). Jointly planned and implemented by Untouchable Peach Theatre Company and Godot Theatre Company, the workshop has 70 percent of the classes taught in Taiwanese. The friendly Taiwanese used in daily life is combined with the posture, movement, and singing of Taiwanese opera, seal carving, balloon modeling, and cardboard theater. Through the rich contents, the 60 participants will speak Taiwanese together.
Director-general Wang Lan-sheng of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall said the workshop of “Let’s Speak Taiwanese” is held in accordance with the Development of National Languages Act of Ministry of Culture. Un-touchable Peach Theatre Company with four nominations for this year’s The Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music, and Godot The-atre Company are specially invited. The workshop has five sessions, and the registration is full. Director-general Wang expressed gratitude to every-one for the enthusiastic participation. Today is the first session in summer. The diverse and exciting classes combined with the traditional theatrical elements and the planning and design of modern theater are original and interdisciplinary, creating the learning atmosphere like an art feast. He also expressed gratitude to the executive teams of the workshop, Untouchable Peach Theatre Company and Godot Theatre Company. The crossover co-operation between the emerging troupe of traditional opera and modern theater fully shows the beauty and fun of Taiwanese. It is expected that everyone will learn a lot and have fun in the workshop.
The workshop has arranged five classes: Speak Taiwanese by Listening to Taiwanese Opera- “On the White Horse Overcoming Barriers,” Speak Tai-wanese by Watching Taiwanese Opera- “Look! Bagua Invincible Wind and Fire Sword,” Speak Taiwanese with Balloon Modeling- “Balloon Class in Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Speak Taiwanese with Seal Carving- “Carve Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Memory,” and Speak Taiwanese with Cardboard Theater- “A Fun Trip to Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.” Through the modern theater experience, Godot Theatre and Company Untouchable Peach Theatre Company will give demonstrations so that the participants will stimulate creativity, train oral expression, show themselves, and under-stand the beauty of traditional Taiwanese theater through the classes and presentations.
