Series Activities in Memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 158th Birth Anniversary

     In memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 158th birth anniversary, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of Ministry of Culture holds a series of activities. The foreign and domestic groups from all over the world visited the hall and paid floral tribute to the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the morning today (Nov. 12). The “book-giving activity” was held at the west corridor of the hall at 9:30. In the afternoon, the outstanding art and cultural groups gave wonderful performances to the public, including the Taiwanese opera light comedy, concert, and “manzai,” which is popular among young people.

 

     Before the opening of the hall in the morning, Director-general Wang Lan-sheng led all staff to pay floral tribute to the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen as a prelude to today’s memorial activities. Besides the scheduled tribute groups, there were also many visitors at the scene to pay tribute to the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The “book-giving activity” was held at the west corridor of the hall at 9:30. More than 1000 books in total were given to the public for free. The books of diverse and rich categories range from the books on Sunology to the artists’ great painting albums published by the hall in the past years, including western painting, ink painting, calligraphy, print, photography, and sculpture.

 

     Director-general Wang Lan-sheng said today is Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 158th Birth Anniversary. Every year National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s achievements through a variety of simple but grand activities. The completion of Chungshan Cultural Park and Reflecting Pool opens up a new look of the park. Today from the tribute and flower-laying in the morning to the three performances in the afternoon, they all embody Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s concepts of revolution and nation-founding and present the diverse culture of Taiwan. The citizens visiting the hall in the holiday afternoon commemorated the meaningful day together with music and great performances.

 

     The three performances “Come Have Fun” of the series activities of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 158th Birth Anniversary were given at 2:30PM, including Untouchable Peach Theatre Company’s new production of “Chungshan Legend Beyond Time and Space,” the “Universe of Love” concert by Twinkle, the outstanding Taiwanese twin band, and the parent-child “Taiwanese Chitchat” with humorous dialogues presented by the Taiwanese “manzai” troupe. All visitors were invited to the enjoy the diverse and great Taiwanese performances together.
