“Resonate with the Earth: Sustainable Action Day” National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Outdoor Cinema Series Activities

     In response to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of the Ministry of Culture organized the series activities of “Resonate with the Earth: Sustainable Action Day” at the Central Plaza of Chungshan Cultural Park at 3PM on September 14, expecting to raise the public’s attention and awareness of sustainable development. The activities include performances, concerts, second-hand market, and film guide and appreciation. This is also the first time for the hall to hold an outdoor cinema in the park. Centered on the theme of sustainability and environmental protection, the outdoor cinema presents Disney’s animated film Toy Story 4. Welcome to experience the unique charm of outdoor cinema under the stars.

 

     Director-general Wang Lan-sheng of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall said the hall specially organized “Resonate with the Earth: Sustainable Action Day” on the eve of Moon Festival with the rich and exciting program, from eco percussion, unplugged concert, cultural and creative and second-hand market around the plaza in the afternoon to the “outdoor cinema” of Toy Story 4 for all ages in the evening. This event is expected to arouse everyone’s awareness of cherishing things and reusing old items. He also announced the second round of activities and outdoor cinema scheduled to be held on October 12 and welcomed everyone to come and have fun. National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will continue to make innovations and bring warmth to the public.

 

     The series activities include performances, concerts, recycling of used items, and film guide and appreciation. At 2:30 p.m., the performances started with the eco artist Wu Cheng-han’s percussion “HAN BEAT.” He used pots and pans and other kitchen utensils as musical instruments, interacted with the audience through passionate music, and guided the audience to explore the beauty of diverse sounds and eco music. Then an unplugged concert was held on site. The student performance groups used the musical instruments of guitars and cajons to present the most original and purest beauty of music. Besides, the market of “Resonate with the Earth: Sustainable Action Day” was held. “The package-free plastic reduction area” and “the recycling area of used items” were specially set up on site to encourage the public to provide unused objects at home and share with others and to convey the concepts of cherishing resources and promoting sustainable recycling.

 

      National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall specially invited Mr. Chou Wen-hai to give a film guide to Toy Story 4 as a warm-up for the outdoor cinema. The film tells the story of the series protagonist Andy giving his toys to the little girl Bonnie. Mr. Chou had a deep discussion of the film from the perspectives of recycling toys, cherishing things, sustainability, and environmental protection. Snacks were also provided on site for the audience to enjoy a leisurely cool autumn night in the busy city.

 

      In response to “Taiwan Girls Day,” National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will hold this year’s second outdoor cinema on October 12. The animated film, Frozen, will be played at 5:30PM on the day after a film guide. The event will start at 1PM and take place on the east lawn and central plaza around Lake Tswei. There will be nearly 400 cultural and creative market stalls and diverse performances including taekwondo, aboriginal dance, classical guitar, accordion, ukulele, flute, cello, and the Japanese hipster concert. There will also be children’s arts and crafts classes and interactive story-telling sessions. Welcome all culture and art lovers to spend a beautiful weekend together with National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on September 14 and October 12.
