“The 6th Chungshan Youth Academic Conference” Promotes Local Heritage and Innovative Development of Sunology Research

     “The 6th Chungshan Youth Academic Conference,” co-organized by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall of the Ministry of Culture, the Sun Yat Sen Academic and Cultural Foundation, and Fu Hsing Kang College of National Defense University, was attended by faculty and students from five schools, including the Graduate Institute of Development Studies of National Chengchi University, the Department of East Asian University of National Taiwan Normal University, the Institute of China and Asia Pacific Studies of National Sun Yat-sen University, and the Graduate Institute of National Development and Mainland China Studies of Chinese Culture University. The opening ceremony was held today (Oct. 25) at the Hao Dong Building of Fu Hsing Kang College, National Defense University. The distinguished guests included Director-general Wang Lan-sheng of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Secretary-general Lee Chien-rong of the Sun Yat Sen Academic and Cultural Foundation, and Commandant M.G. Hsieh Yung-wei of Fu Hsing Kang College, National Defense University. The conference titled “Sun Yat-sen’s Development Views and Modernization Process” features a keynote speech and 15 paper presentations. More than hundred scholar, experts, and graduate students participated in the conference, creating a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere.

 

     The purpose of the conference held by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is not only to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s great personality and revolutionary deeds and promote his thoughts and doctrines but also to encourage outstanding young scholars to engage in the heritage and innovation of Sunology research. Director-general Wang Lan-sheng stated that Sunology research has been the core business of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. The young scholars and graduate students are the driving force of promoting Sunology research. The National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall values senior scholars’ academic efforts and looks forward to young scholars’ enthusiastic involvement. Therefore, it actively advances to campuses and promotes Sunology through the concept of liberal arts education. It is hoped that this conference will promote the local heritage and innovative development of Sunology research and add a brand and diverse style.


     Secretary-general Lee Chien-rong of the Sun Yat Sen Academic and Cultural Foundation expressed his hope that more young students will engage in the research of Sunology. He is willing to provide scholarships for graduate students in collaboration with the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to cultivate young academic talents. Commandant M.G. Hsieh Yung-wei of Fu Hsing Kang College of National Defense University expressed his honor to host this meaningful academic conference. NDU’s Department of Political Science has been a pioneer in the domestic research of Sunology and collaborated with the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for years. The interaction, friendship, and cooperation are invaluable. To support the sustainable development of the Sunology research, NDU is pleased to participate in the related academic activities.

 

     “The 6th Chungshan Youth Academic Conference” has selected a total of 18 graduate students: Chen Zuo-ren, Chang Gui-lian, Lin Hong-tai, Wang Huai-qing, Gui Xie-ning, Zhu Jian, Chen Shi-an, Yu Zhi-kui, Huang Zhi-ping, Liu Yu-ning, Xu Ping-xin, Xu Xin-yue, Liao Yen-cheng, Yu Zhen-yuan, Liu De-chang, Guo Jun-ling, Chi De-ying, and Li Jian-wei to present papers on the conference theme, “Sun Yat-sen’s Development Views and Modernization Process.” At the same time, Prof. Chou Yang-sun of the Department of International and Mainland China Affairs of National Quomoy University was invited to give a keynote speech on “Sun Yat-sen’s Thought and Political Modernization,” delving into how Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s thought influences the political modernization of the Republic of China, including the democracy, freedom, and openness Taiwan enjoys.
