A Date with Master: Fu Sheng Sixty-Year Ink Painting Retrospective Exhibition The opening ceremony will take place at Chungshan National Gallery on February 16.

     The opening ceremony of “A Date with Master: Fu Sheng Sixty-Year Ink Painting Retrospective Exhibition,” host by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Ministry of Culture, will take place at Chungshan National Gallery of the hall at 2:30 PM on February 16. Welcome to attend the ceremony.


      The artist Mr. Fu Sheng is a famous contemporary scholar of Chinese calligraphy and painting, connoisseur, calligrapher, and painter. He used to be the researcher of National Palace Museum, associate professor of Yale University, Chinese division director of Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, and professor of Graduate Institute of Art History, National Taiwan University. At present, he serves as the advisory committee member of National Palace Museum, adjunct professor of Graduate Institute of Art History, NTU, and researcher of The Palace Museum, Beijing. As a historian and connoisseur, Mr. Fu Sheng’s essay “On Painting: A Study on the Painter Issue” clarifies the original creator of the landscape painting theories on the southern and northern schools over the past three hundred years and its influence and confirms that the author is Dong Ci-chang. His identification of “The Original Look of Shengshan Tu (The Remaining Mountain) and Fuchun Scroll” restores the true history and makes excellent contributions. As an art creator, Mr. Fu Sheng masters ink painting, calligraphy, ceramics and stone and has his own personal characteristics.


      The exhibition includes more than 80 works of calligraphy, painting, and ceramics created by Mr. Fu Sheng. Among them, there are mainly the 60 pieces of calligraphic works. He excels at all scripts including seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script. His regular script is elegant, clerical script unsophisticated, seal script stately, and running script combining the elements of different calligraphic styles of different generations. His stroke is free and smooth with the blank in lines showing the beauty of vigor and strength.
