In memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 98th death anniversary, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memoerial Hall specially arranges the series activities of “Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s 98th Death Anniversary and National Language Promotion,” including “Pay Tribute to Dr. Sun Yat-sen,” the sapling-giving activity “Create Green Life Together,” the book-giving activity “Embrace Books,” and the memorial concert “Painting and Dancing—Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Death Anniversary and Multiple Languages.”
The main hall of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was open to the social public to pay a floral tribute to Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s statue and retrospect and express their respect for Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the morning today (March 12). The atmosphere was warm and touching. The sapling-giving activity “Create Green Life Together” was held on the west square of the hall, giving the saplings of azalea, osmanthus, and Tashiro Indian Hawthorn provided by Forestry Bureau to citizens to beautify their homes. The book-giving activity “Embrace Books” was held at the west corridor. The research books on Sunology and artists’ great painting volumes published in the past years were given for free. There were up to 1,200 books in diverse categories, including west painting, ink painting, calligraphy, print, photography, and sculpture.
The memorial concert, “Painting and Dancing—Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Death Anniversary and Multiple Languages” was held at the front hall in the afternoon. The host stirred up the atmosphere and led the activities in Taiwanese. Lin Guang-ting, the young artist with Down Syndrome, and his father and ink painter, Prof. Lin Yung-fa, created works together on the scene. The dance troupe of Zendance performed “Thousand Hand Dance.” By combining the Buddhist culture with art and cultivation, the inheritance of Zendance purifies human hearts and prays for social harmony. Besides, Chen Yu-an, an actress who plays the lead male role (xiansheng) in Taiwanese opera and a singer, interpreted the classic songs of diverse styles in Taiwanese, including “Full of Joy and Happiness” of the traditional Taiwanese opera, “Vain Dreams regardless of Wife and Children and Love over Gold Swing” of the crossover Taiwanese opera, and “The Oyster Picker’s Wife” of the new Taiwanese folk song, receiving a full applause from the audience.
Director-general Wang Lan-sheng said Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall holds many activities to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s deeds on March 12, his death anniversary every year. Besides the activity to pay tribute to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, there are also the sapling-giving activity, book-giving activity, and memorial concert. It is hoped to bring everyone different feelings and promote Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s spirit of fraternity through books and art. Moreover, Director-general Wang Lan-sheng also said the ongoing landscape renovation of Chungshan Park is expected to be completed in August and the square will have a refreshing look then.
