Tien Wen-pi-A Salute to Hundred Contemporary Artists Sculpture Traveling Exhibition” will be held at Yat-sen Gallery on the 3rd floor of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Ministry of Culture, from July 20 to August 3. The opening ceremony was held at 2:30PM on July 23. The distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Political Deputy Minister of Culture, Hsiao Tsung-huang, Chair Professor of Department of Fine Arts, NTNU, Liao Shiou-ping, Professor of Graduate School of Prink-making, NTUA, Chung You-hui, Professor of Graduate School of Fine Arts, NTNU, Lo Fong, former Dean of College of Fine Arts, TNUA, Prof. Lin Chang-hu, Chairman of Today Art Group, Lin Fu-chuan, and Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng.

     Mr. Tien Wen-pi was born in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan, in 1978. Graduating from Graduate School of Prink-making, NTUA, he was a teacher of the art resources room of Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and is now the chairman of Hua Dong Hua Xi Painting Society. Growing up on the island of Liuqiu with the vast open space and deeply influenced by nature, he cultivates the character of perseverance. Tien is good at taking full advantage of the characteristics of different media with the experimental and testing spirit. He excels in all the fields such as sculpture, print, and painting, fully presenting the characteristics of all kinds of media, especially in the creation of prints.

     Political Deputy Minister of Culture, Hsiao Tsung-huang, said the Taiwanese artists have the abundant and diverse creative media and styles and the different views and techniques of writing and construction. Historians write biographies for artists. Photographers keep the image records for artists. Tien Wen-pi captures the artists’ appearance and facial expression through sculpture. The cultural engineering of reconstructing the history of Taiwan art promoted by Ministry of Culture aims to not only discover and explore the past but also observe and record the present as the foundation to construct the future. Therefore, Tien not only makes the sculpture of hundred artists but also lays the cornerstone for the history of Taiwan art to step into the future.

     In his speech, the artist, Tien Wen-pi, said the works of the exhibition were created from 2011 to 2021. He makes the sculptures of hundred contemporary artists, expresses the artists’ spirit and mental states through the modeling forms of sculpture, and represents the artists’ reserved charm and energy in the inner mind. The different affective traits showed by each artist arouses his personal interpretation of the creative styles. The sculptural forms are made use of to express the inner spirit, endow the sculptures with the new art life, and salute the contemporary artists.

     Through “Tien Wen-pi-A Salute to Hundred Contemporary Artists Sculpture Traveling Exhibition,” National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall expects to highlight the artists’ charm, spiritual contents, and personality traits, explore deeply the artists’ spiritual state, transform and interpret their inner mind, show their resilience in life and spiritual power, record the eternal spiritual value for contemporary art in Taiwan, and leave the historic records.
