“Light the Lanterns of Fraternity, Pass Love Forward”National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Gives Lanterns to Yangming Home for the Disabled on March 26

Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Liang Yung-fei, went to Taipei City Yangming Home for the Disabled today (March 26) to give the thirteen colorful lanterns designed and painted by the hall to decorate the environment of the home. The activity was full of the warm and touching moments.

The activity started with the residents’ drum performance. The vice dean, Lin Hui-jun, expressed the gratitude and said that the home residents had received the long-term care from the memorial hall during the service for years.

Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Liang Yung-fei, said he felt touched by the drum performance given by the devoted residents. The three core concepts of Dr. Sun Yat-sen are very important: “freedom, equality, and fraternity,” especially equality. Indeed, all men are born equal. But after birth, some suffer from diseases and therefore inequality. It is the nation, the society, or the people that should make up for this. The method is “fraternity.” The action of love is to support the residents of Yangming Home for the Disabled.

Director-general Liang explained that this fraternity is not on the philosophical level. The past discussion of fraternity at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall stayed on the thinking level. However, thinking has to be put into practice so as to show the unlimited function to people. As for the domestic groups of the disadvantaged in need of care, the citizens should give them more help. Fraternity is not only the philosophical thinking but also the practice, action, and devotion. This is the first time for National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to visit Yangming Home for the Disabled in the forty-seven years, which is the best proof of action to show “fraternity.”

Director-general Liang officially indicated that there is an inseparable connection and partnership between National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Yangming Home for the Disabled. On the future anniversary celebrations of the hall and of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, we will plan to invite the talent societies of the home to perform at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall so that the tourists at home and abroad will see the first-class performance of the home residents.

The home then arranged the visit to the home and the experience at the bakery workshop. The residents happily called the director-general “Daddy Liang.” The friendly director-general Liang made cakes together with the residents. The cakes of the great quality smelled good. Director-general Liang specially bought twenty boxes of cakes made by the residents to give to the colleagues, volunteers, and honor guards of the hall to share the outcome of passing love forward.

With some personal afterthoughts, Director-general Liang made a poem titled “Purple Magnolia,” expecting everyone to share the idea “to encourage life and exert the full energy no matter how difficult it is.” The content of the poem is as follows, “They blossom day and night, with fragrance diffused like fraternity. Purple magnolias pass love forward, as joy and happiness are handed generation after generation.” Best wishes to the residents of Yangming Home for the Disabled with happiness, peace, and joy.
