“2022 Academician Exhibition of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts” Grandly Held at Bo-ai Gallery from Today

     “2022 Academician Exhibition of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts” is opened at Bo-ai Gallery of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Ministry of Culture, today (March 12), attended by Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te, former Judicial Yuan President Lai Hao-ming, former Minister of Culture Hung Meng-chi, Chairman Liao Shiou-ping of Culture and Arts Foundation of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, Honorary Professor Wang Hsiu-hsiung of Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University, notable artist Hsieh Li-fa, former President Huang Kuang-nan of National Taiwan University of Arts, Dean Chiang Ming-shyan of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts, Director-general Wang Lan-sheng of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and the academicians of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts.

    Culture and Arts Foundation of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 2010 by the professors with high reputation in the fine arts and painting circles of Taiwan including Wang Hsiu-hsiung, Liao Shiou-ping, Fu Sheng, He Huai-shuo, Chiang Ming-shyan, Huang Kuang-nan. The first academician exhibition, “Heritage and Innovation,” was held at Chungshan National Gallery of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Its members have expanded from 10 to 47 this year. They are the top creators and theorists with the rich academic literacy and unique style in the fields of Chinese and western art history, art criticism, oil painting, printmaking, ink painting, calligraphy, and visual design and the outstanding contribution to fine arts education. This time, there are 47 members participating in the exhibition including 44 works and 33 publications.

     In his speech, Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te specially expressed his gratitude to Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts for the dedication to the development of fine arts in Taiwan. Besides the domestic exhibition, it is also planned to be exhibited in the foreign countries, and “Ministry of Culture will surely give the full support.” Minister Lee pointed out that Ministry of Culture, with the support of President Tsai Ing-wen, has proposed the project of “Reconstruction of Taiwan’s Art History” and gradually pieced up the art history of Taiwan completely in collaboration with the governmental and private sectors. Besides, Ministry of Culture also keeps promoting the visual art policies, including the recent separate taxation of artwork trading and the revision from craftsman to fine arts craftsman for the professional practitioners’ standard of individual income tax. The workers engaged in the creation of fine arts and craft can have an exemption of up to 62 percent. Ministry of Culture will continue to support the development of fine arts of Taiwan and let the world see Taiwan.

     Chairman Liao Shiou-ping of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts said Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts is engaged in the creation of fine arts and the research of theories, promotes the cooperation between the industry, academia, and government, broadens the international and cross-strait art exchange and resource sharing with the purpose of enhancing and upgrading the development of fine arts in Taiwan. The collection and organization of the historical documents of post-war Taiwan will become the headstone of advanced research for later generations and further strengthen and consolidate the art foundation in Taiwan. He expressed the gratitude to National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for the long-term support to Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts and expected the academy to bring Taiwan’s modern art from Asia to Europe and make it seen by the world.

     Former Minister of Culture Hung Meng-chi said the spirit of heritage can be seen from the members of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts. They not only dedicate themselves to cultivating talents but also upgrade the overall social temperament in Taiwan through aesthetic education. Culture is mutual acculturation. It is admirable that the artists make advances through the mutual discussions of creative skills and the exchanges of contents. Former Judicial Yuan President Lai Hao-ming pointed out that art can show the mental beauty of Taiwan and made an appeal that the society should give more support to the art circle as we all need the nourishment of art and culture.

     Former President Huang Kuang-nan of National Taiwan University of Arts noted that Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts is a private art group to raise and lay the cultural and art standard of Taiwan by following Japan, Korea, and France. At the same time, it promotes the Taiwanese art overseas and has become a brand of Taiwanese art, pursuing quality and developing the taste of Taiwanese art.

     Dean Chiang Ming-shyan of Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts said in his speech that Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts was founded as a foundation to achieve the sustainable operation of the academy of fine arts by mainly referring to the organization and tradition of Japan Art Academy. With the strict system of selection, it not only actively promotes the academy affairs overseas but also plans Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts Awards. It is expected to further establish its museum of fine arts in the future with the support and encouragement of Ministry of Culture.

     Since establishment, Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts has kept holding exhibitions, academic conferences, and symposiums at home and abroad. This year’s exhibition and art forum will start from today. Welcome to visit and join us.
