“Beautiful Scene-Chang Ke-chi 70-year-old Retrospective Exhibition,” organized by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, will be grandly held at Chungshan National Gallery from May 7 to June 14. The opening ceremony was held at 2PM today (May 8). The exhibition selects 78 meticulous painting, 22 painting drafts, 12 Chinese zodiac animal memorial coins, and 9 painting volumes, with the rich topics including birds, animals, poultry, livestock, flowers, and vegetables and the warm meanings of “abundant material life,” “family love,” “freedom and harmony,” and “mercy for others” to present the art charm admired by scholars and laymen alike.
Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng, praised Prof. Chang Ke-chi for “depicting ecology with sketching and coloring life with the freehand style.” From the vividly-depicted cloud leopards, tigers, Swinhoe's pheasants, and the diverse primitive plants of Taiwan in the paintings, we can feel the prosperous vitality and the joyful, warm, and positive atmosphere. The emphasis on “the abstract meaning behind the meticulously painted pictures” presents not only the painting details but also the depth of field and rich layering. Ms. Wang Shu-zhen, Prof. Chang’s wife, expressed the gratitude to the distinguished guests on behalf of Prof. Chang. Last year Prof. Chang was sick, but he is recovering well through the rehabilitation of sketching. She also expressed the gratitude to the teachers, family, friends, and students for their continuous support and encouragement. She also expected the viewers to “Chang Ke-chi 70-year-old Retrospective Exhibition” to deeply experience the content of “Heaven and humans are one,” with the care and love for nature, and feel the abundance and beauty on the land of Taiwan.
The artist, Prof. Chang Ke-chi, was born in Puli Township, Nantou County, in Taiwan in 1950. After graduating from Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University, he received the master’s degree from Graduate Institute of Art, Chinese Culture University. He has insisted on the creative topics of meticulous flowers, birds, and animals for years. His work “Dancing Cranes” won “Golden Yi Award” at the first exhibition of Golden China Hue Art Association. His work “Deep Mother Love” won “Senate President Award” at National Ink Exhibition in Japan.
In creation, Prof. Chang Ke-chi pursues the complete form and the extensive ink culture as well as the local and ecological concern. The works are full of the understanding about the natural extreme beauty and philosophy of life. From the mouthwatering vegetables and fruit, brightly colorful flowers, cows with deep mother love, happy chicken family, dancing cranes, auspicious tigers, extinct cloud leopards, endangered leopard cats, exclusive birds in Taiwan, to migratory birds, Prof. Chang praises all life in nature by sketching them stroke by stroke with the extraordinary perseverance.
