National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Gives “2020 Chungshan Youth Art Awards” to Encourage Youth Generation’s Art Creation
The award-giving and opening ceremony of “2020 Chungshan Youth Art Award Exhibition” organized by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Ministry of Culture, was held today (Dec. 19). Administrative Deputy Minister of Culture, Li Lian-quan, the competition judges, Prof. Ni Chao-lung, Mr. Chen Kun-i, Mr. Chen Jia-zi, Prof. Hsueh Ping-nan, Prof. Su Hsien-fa, Pro. Tsai You, Ms. Lin Shu-nu, Prof. Li Zong-ren, and Secretary-general of Taiwan Art Gallery Association, You Wen-mei, and Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng attended the ceremony.

      The competition of “Chungshan Youth Art Awards” encourages the young artists aged from 20 to 45 to develop their creation. The submitted works are categorized into three groups, ink art, calligraphy, and oil painting. There are 152 works in total this year. After the initial and final reviews, the 49 winners were selected including 19 in the ink art group, 12 in the calligraphy group, and 18 in the oil painting group. The 3 Chungshan Award winners this year are Chen Shi-hang for the ink art group, Chen Zhao-kun for the calligraphy group, and Yang You-sheng for the oil painting group. Each winner will be given NT$300,000 and one trophy by Administrative Deputy Minister of Culture, Li Lian-quan. The second place and third place of each group will respectively win NT$100,000 and NT$50,000, given by Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng. Each group has five honorable mention award winners, and each of them can win NT$10,000.

      Administrative Deputy Minister of Culture, Li Lian-quan, said visual art is the mother of eight major arts. “Chungshan Youth Art Awards” is the important domestic competition rewarding the youth artists. The art categories of oil painting, ink art, and calligraphy are the greatly emphasized and received visual art types. Ministry of Culture will continue the policies and work on art development and talent cultivation to strengthen the art industry chain by assisting the youth artists in entering the art market more smoothly, promoting the subsidy project of youth art development, and providing the creators the financial support. At ART TAIPEI, the “MIT New Star Recommendation Area” will be established to introduce the agent system. Besides, it is hoped that the painters’ taxation burden in the primary art market will be eased as they enter the industry. The single tax system and separated tax system will be adopted in the secondary auction market to simplify the procedure. It is expected that Taiwan will become one of the most important auction markets in Asia-Pacific so that the art energy of Taiwan will be seen to the world.

     Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Wang Lan-sheng, said that culture always needs new blood. To encourage the young generation to engage in art creation, the hall has kept sticking to the important mission since establishment and holding Chungshan Youth Art Awards.

      To encourage the winning young artists to keep making progress in art creation and promote their creative energy in the industry, the rewards and promotion measures this year include: 1. Besides being exhibited in National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the selected and award-winning works will join the traveling exhibitions at Changhua County Art Museum and Kaohsiung Cultural Center. The exhibition on the off-shore island Penghu is also being planned. 2. Through the collaboration between National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Taiwan Art Gallery Association, the winners of Chungshan Award will join 2021 ART TAIPEI next year. 3. From this year (2020), the Chungshan Award winners will be able to apply to hold the personal exhibitions at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall excepted from review.
