National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall’s “2021 Chungshan Youth Art Award Traveling Exhibition” will be held at Meiling Museum of Art of Chiayi County from March 22 to April 17, 2022. The opening ceremony was held at 2PM today (March 25). The 55 selected winning works from the three categories, ink painting, calligraphy, and oil painting, are exhibited. The exhibition is open for free. Welcome to appreciate the works.

The competition of “Chungshan Youth Art Award” encourages the young artists aged from 20 to 45 to engage in creation and calls for works of the three categories, ink painting, calligraphy, and oil painting. After the preliminary and secondary review, 42 winners are selected, including 15 of the ink painting group, 13 of the calligraphy group, and 14 of the oil painting group. Chungshan Award (First Place), Second Place, Third Place, Honorable Mention Awards, and Judges’ Awards are given to each group.

On behalf of Magistrate Weng Chang-liang, Director-general of Culture and Tourism Bureau of Chiayi County, Hsu Yo-jen, said he is glad that the first stop of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall’s “Chungshan Youth Art Award” is at Meiling Museum of Art of Chiayi. There is a wealth of talents in the local art circle. The Chungshan Award winner of the oil painting group, Mr. Hu Shian-wen, is a relative of Mr. Wu Mei-ling, which endows the exhibition with the special meaning. Under the long influence of art education given by his parents, he has achieved the outstanding achievement in art. He especially expressed his gratitude to National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for coming a long way from Taipei, promoting the outstanding artworks in Chiayi, and bringing a rich art feast to the citizens of Chiayi.

Deputy Director-general of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Yang Tong-hui, expressed the special gratitude to Chiayi County Government and Meiling Museum of Art for providing the ideal exhibition room. The predecessor of “Chungshan Youth Art Award” is “National Youth Students Painting and Calligraphy Competition,” the art competition held by National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall from 1973 to 2011 as well as the precursor of many calligraphy and painting competitions. The competition lasted for 38 years and cultivated many famous calligraphy and painting masters and fine arts professors at home and abroad. To provide young artists with the opportunity to be seen, the hall started “Chungshan Youth Art Award” in 2016 and this year is the sixth year. The winning young artists come from the different counties and cities of Taiwan. Besides the exhibition at the hall, there are also the traveling exhibitions every year. After Meiling Museum of Art, the exhibition will be held at Museum of Fine Arts of Cultural Bureau, Hsinchu County. It is hoped that the art and cultural exchanges between cities and museums will encourage young artists to broaden horizons and refine creation. The platform to show their art talent is provided to enhance the art and cultural development because today’s young men are the important artists of the country in the future.

This year, two winners of the Chungshan Award come from Chiayi: Hu Shian-wen of the oil painting group and Wu Hong-jun of the calligraphy group. Besides, Wu Hong-jun is also the winner of the ink painting group at the 5th Chungshan Youth Art Award. He is the first one to win the first place of two groups, which indicates that the cultural and art standard in Chiayi is quite high. It is hoped to have more opportunities to cooperate with Chiayi County Government in the future. Welcome everyone to participate in the 50th Anniversary Series Activities of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall together this year.

Culture needs new life and new blood. To encourage the young generation to engage in art creation, our hall continues to hold Chungshan Youth Art Award. This year, there are three winners of the Chungshan Award. They are Wu Shang-wei of the ink painting group, Wu Hong-jun of the calligraphy group, and Hu Shian-wen of the oil painting group.
